TEXAS — The latest COVID-19 numbers in Texas are encouraging.

The Texas Department of State Health Services on Sunday reported just 388 new confirmed cases of the virus, 207 new probable cases and zero deaths attributed to the disease.

Still, 2,199 Texans remain hospitalized with COVID-19.

The improved numbers come as Texas on Friday surpassed 20 million administered doses of COVID-19 vaccine. As it stands on Sunday, 20,423,361 doses have been administered, 11,821,141 Texans have received at least one vaccine dose and 9,344,696 are fully vaccinated. Texas is home to nearly 30 million people.

The news additionally comes as the Pfizer vaccine has been opened to adolescents between the ages of 12 and 15 and following a relaxed facial mask guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The CDC announced Thursday it no longer recommends that fully vaccinated people wear a mask indoors or outdoors except in crowded indoor settings such as buses, planes, hospitals, prisons and homeless shelters.
