TAMPA BAY, Fla. — Several organizations are coming together to help out the Bahamas and among them are those who know firsthand how devastating hurricanes can be.

  • Organizations are still collecting
  • People can donate Sunday afternoon

Somos Puerto Rico of Tampa is a group that came together in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, which devastated Puerto Rico.

Members of the group worked with other local organizations to collect all kinds of donations, from food, to medical supplies to diapers. They are collecting what they can get for those affected by Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas.

It is the type of things they and other groups know from Maria that can be used now.

"Just because it's not us Sunday, it could be us Monday and it is imperative that we as a community help each other no matter if it's local or if it's a state wide or in a different country. We just need to be humans and go back to the basic principles of helping one another," said Tonya Lewis of Children With A Vision charity.

People can donate and help can do so on Sunday, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at:

2602 East 7th Ave. (Ybor)
