  • Suspect, Tyler Bardin, located

According to Col. Donna Lusczynski, a man was shot dead in some type of domestic situation at an apartment at the Cortez of Carrollwood Apartments at 3811 N. Cortez Circle in Tampa.

Lusczynski said authorities received a call at 1:43 a.m. When deputies arrived they found Brian Vessell, 46, dead outside the apartment from at least one gunshot wound.

Detectives checked the residence and found a woman inside unharmed. They then began to search for Tyler Bardin, the son of the dead man's girlfriend.

Lusczynski said this was not the first time authorities had been called to the apartment but could not confirm previous calls involved the same people.

Detectives said Bardin was hiding inside the residence, after a few failed attempts to call him out, deputies were able to apprehend him as he tried to exit the rear of the apartment.

At this time, Bardin has not been charged with any criminal violations pending further investigation, officials said.
