PASCO COUNTY, Fla. -- Pasco County authorities say a 19-year-old man has been charged with lewd and lascivious molestation at a county library.

  • Austin Nathaniel West, 19, arrested
  • Accused of lewd act with 14-year-old boy
  • Library system says he has been dismissed

Austin Nathaniel West was a library volunteer when the incident was reported but has since been terminated.

According to a Sheriff's Office report released Friday, a 14-year-old boy said West "enticed him to engage in sexual activity."

The report said four other juveniles were present at the time gave the same version of events.

Pasco County Libraries said Friday afternoon that a background check was completed on West in late January and that his first shift was worked on Feb. 9.

He was dismissed from his volunteer position on May 7.

"The Pasco County Library System takes the safety of all patrons and staff very seriously," the system said. "Pasco County Libraries has reviewed our volunteer policy, and as a result of this case, will no longer allow adults to volunteer at after-hours events for teenagers.

Parents who heard about what happened expressed their concerns.

"I think it's sad, but I think it's pretty common in our culture today that people, even younger people, try to find victims and go to places where there are victims to be found, like libraries, schools and churches," said Melanie Kuntzweiler.

Another parent, Elizabeth Hensley, said: "I think things like that unfortunately happen anywhere at any time. But the thing we have to teach our kids, if they can communicate with us or other adults when those things happen."
