ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Alberto continues moving farther away to the northwest. It’s a little more organized now that it’s finally moving into a less hostile environment in the northern Gulf.

But that won’t change our forecast. As expected, we’re on the eastern side where we’re seeing limited impacts…mainly in the form of breezy showers, higher tides, and rip currents along the beach. We did get some heavy rains, but the flooding potential is very limited since drier air wrapped into our area to limit the heavy rains.  The bigger impacts are in the Gulf and to our north in the panhandle.  

There will continue to be some rain squalls from time to time into Monday. However, this drier air wrapping around will help to limit the heaviest rains, which is good news for our area. 

Tides will continue running above average and the highest tide levels will be from Hernando county northward. Temperatures will be in the 70s tonight with a muggy breeze from the south.

Monday will be partly sunny with a south wind and scattered showers and storms. Highs will be in the mid 80s.

Alberto will move far enough away from us that the breezy winds will die down Monday night into Tuesday. 

Atmospheric moisture will be left behind though, so there will still be a good chance of scattered showers and storms Tuesday with highs in the mid 80s.

Our weather will get back to a more normal pattern from Wednesday onward. 

Expect about a 50 percent coverage of scattered storms Wednesday with highs in the mid to upper 80s.

After that is when rain chances will drop to about 40 percent for Thursday into Friday and get back to primarily the afternoon time period. 

That also means highs will get back to the upper 80s to about 90.

CLOSINGS:

Busch Gardens and Adventure Island are adjusting the park schedules today due to the expected heavy rain and wind. 

Busch Gardens will close at 7 p.m. Sunday night, and Adventure Island will be closed Sunday. Guests will still be able to join "Jungle Jack" Hanna for wild animal shows, autograph signings, and special meet-and-greets during animal shows at the Stanleyville Theater at 12 p.m., 2 p.m., and 4 p.m. Sunday. 

The Tampa Bay Margarita Festival is also closed for the 2nd day of the event, including the Margarita run. For more information on refunds, click here. 

The Sunset Music Festival is canceled Sunday due to the weather risk.
