TAMPA, Fla. — The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal shooting in a Tampa home Friday afternoon.

  • 911 call reported shots fired
  • Deputies found woman dead
  • 1 other person at home, not considered a suspect

Deputies responded to a house located at 3675 Sugarcreek Drive after a 911 call came in at 11:49 a.m. reporting shots fired at the location, according to the sheriff's office.

Upon arrival, they found a woman at the location had been murdered. The 911 call came from another person who was inside the home at the time of the shooting.

"The initial call came from a male individual who was initially inside the residence when the shooting did occur," said Sheriff's Office Major Frank Losat. "We are interviewing him and he has given us a statement at this time to his involvement or no involvement."

Detectives are also searching a retention ditch behind the home for evidence.

The victim had two children, according to investigators. Neither of the children was home at the time of the shooting.

Losat did note that the Sheriff's Office had a history of visits to the home.

"We've been to this residence numerous times in the past for family related issues," Losat said. "So we'll be following up on any issues related to that, too."

The shooting is considered an isolated incident. Deputies are currently awaiting a search warrant for the home.
