The cold weather isn't just affecting people, it's affecting marine life too.

  • 80 cold-stunned sea turtles rescued in the Gulf
  • Turtles become shocked when water drops below 50 degrees

Gulf World Marine Institute in Florida has rescued more than 80 sea turtles stunned by cold weather.

The institute said when waters drop below 50 degrees, sea turtles can become shocked.

Rescue groups are searching in the Saint Joe Bay area between Panama City and Apalachicola for cold-stunned sea turtles.

When they're done, they could rescue an estimated 300 of the reptiles.

Veterinary staff are examining them and they're being placed in warmer water.

They expect to tag and release the majority of them into the Gulf of Mexico's warmer waters as early as next week.
