The crash happened at about 11 a.m. on U.S. Highway 19 at the intersection of Turkey Oak Drive in Citrus County.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers say a 2012 Subaru Outback driven by Nancy Lowery Wise, 74, was headed south on U.S. Highway 19 with John Wesley Wise as a passenger.

As it tried to turn left onto Turkey Oak Drive, it traveled into the path of a 2000 Dodge Ram driven by Dennis Maita, 33, of Dunnellon, FHP says.

John Wise, of Crystal River, was pronounced dead at the scene; Nancy Wise, also of Crystal River, was taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.

Maita and a 6-year-old girl in the Dodge Ram were not hurt.

All four people were wearing seat belts, troopers said.

Charges are pending.
