TAMPA, Fla. — The family of an 18-year-old shot and killed in Tampa this weekend is asking for tips that can help police solve the crime.

Takiya Fullwood was found shot Sunday morning in the 3700 block of North 15th Street in the Ybor Heights area

Police said there was some type of altercation at a party. The shooter is being sought.

Fullwood was studying biology at Florida Atlantic University.

"She was outgoing, fun, intelligent and loved by her community," the family said in a statement. "She loved her brothers and sisters, her church family, and was a great friend to many.

"Her life was cut abruptly and violently, and our family and community are devastated."

Fullwood's family described her as a vibrant college student who had big dreams of becoming a dentist, taking after her mom.

Spectrum Bay News 9 spoke with her cousin, ValTrenda about how her family will remember Takiya.

“She loved God. She loved her church family, she loved her family. And she loved education, learning new things, doing differing things, her friends were very important to her," said ValTrenda.

ValTrenda is begging for anyone with information about who killed Fullwood to come forward.

“We just need to find the person that took Takiya away from us. That’s all there is to it," said ValTrenda.

The family asked that anyone with information call Tampa police at 813-231-6130 or Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay at 1-800-873-TIPS.
