TAMPA, Fla. — A grand reopening ceremony was held in Tampa on Thursday following renovations at the R.I.C.H. House.

The home is located in the Sulphur Springs neighborhood and it offers a safe place for children to spend time after school. From doing homework to having fun with friends, the goal is for children to succeed there.
“I was motivated to do better than I thought I could do,” said Shaheedah Salaam.
She started coming to the R.I.C.H House during her teenage years. Now she’s studying to get her master’s degree at USF.
Salaam volunteers at the house, helping other children. She was thrilled to see the renovated home.
“I see a bright future when I see it remodeled," said Salaam. "Because when they remodeled it, it tells me they’re investing in something that they believe will give a result, a positive and a huge result at the end."
The program is run by the Tampa Police Department.
“I am excited for what’s to come because the best is yet to come with this house,” said Office Richelle Fertig. She runs the R.I.C.H House.
Children take part in the programs at the home Monday through Thursday.
Right now more volunteers are needed.
