CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla. — Friends and family of Joshua Hensley gathered at Hunter Springs Park in Crystal River on Saturday to paddle board in his memory.

Hensley, referred to as "Captain Jack" for dressing as Jack Sparrow, was a well-known paddle boarder. His body was found in King's Bay on Monday. The Citrus County Sheriff's Office is still investigating how he died.

A memorial is growing at the park where he dressed as a pirate, rented paddle boards and made visitors smile. Friends are hoping a permanent memorial can be put there in the future.

"It's dull without him. He was a shining icon here and I still can't believe I’m not going to see him again," said Ana Maria Rodriguez, a friend of Hensley.

Many friends are shocked they won't see him out on the water anymore.

"That's why you've got to live your life to the fullest. That's why I did make it here today because I know he would want me here," said Dee Salafrio, a friend of Hensley.

"An outstanding person like him doesn't come around often in people's lives and he was one of those outstanding people," said Rodriguez.

A gathering is planned for Sunday evening at 6 p.m. at Hunter Springs Park to honor and remember his life.
