RUSKIN, Fla. — A 16-year-old Lennard High School student is facing charges after authorities said she made a threat to harm other students.

  • Lennard High student arrested, charged with making threat
  • Deputies: Witnesses heard girl say she was "tired of the kids at school" and wanting to shoot them
  • Student charged with making a false report concerning planting a bomb, an explosive, or a weapon of mass destruction

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, the girl made comments about being "tired of the kids at school" and wanting to shoot them. Two other students heard the comments, authorities said.

The witnesses came forward Tuesday, adding that the girl also made a comment about wanting to build a death camp in the woods where she could make kids disappear.

School security was notified and the sheriff’s office investigated.

No evidence was found that supported the girl being able to carry out any threats.

The teen was taken into custody Tuesday night on charges of making a false report concerning planting a bomb, an explosive, or a weapon of mass destruction, or concerning the use of firearms in a violent manner.

In accordance with Spectrum Bay News 9's crime guidelines, the teen is not being named unless charged as an adult.

"The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office takes all threats of violence against students seriously, and we will continue to work with school staff to investigate these threats thoroughly," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "I am urging all parents to talk with their children about the seriousness of making any threats. It's important for them to learn that even fake threats can have serious consequences and long term repercussions."
