LAKELAND, Fla. — Police have identified the three people killed in a murder-suicide on Christmas Eve.

  • Shootings happened at home on Atlanta Avenue
  • Police ID shooter as Leighton Josephs, 30
  • Case is still under investigation

It happened at about 5:30 p.m. at a home on Atlanta Avenue. Officers who responded to a shots-fired call said three people were found dead inside the home.

Four children, all under the age of 10, were at the home but were not injured, police said.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Leighton Josephs, 30, entered the home and shot a man and woman inside before shooting himself.

The woman was 30 and the man 27. Detectives think Josephs knew both of them.

Police didn't release their names.

"I think it's safe to say the holidays often times puts stresses on families and individuals and how they respond to those situations is obviously difficult," Lakeland Police Capt. Ed Cain said.

Detectives are working with the families to help the children.
