TAMPA, Fla. — Dozens of cyclists are on the long ride from Tampa to Tallahassee for the annual Cure on Wheels Capitol Ride.

The riders left Sunday morning from Moffitt Cancer Center, headed up the Florida Capitol for Moffitt Day, where they will push for more funding for cancer research.

This is the 10^th straight year they’ve done the ride.

Each rider has a personal connection to the disease but to them, the long journey and training needed is worth it.

Cancer survivor Richard Parniawski of St. Petersburg has been there each year. 

“We’re riding for the people that are in Moffitt right now that are just hurting,” Parniawski said. “Someday they will be cured and they’ll come and ride with us. That’s the objective. Many of them have.”

They’ll be riding for three days and more than 300 miles, right up to the steps of the Florida Capitol.

Moffitt Day is the annual day in Tallahassee to push legislators for more cancer research funding.

Richard Spade helped start the annual Cure on Wheels ride 10 years ago, saying that Moffitt Day is one of the most important days of the year for cancer research.

“Cancer never stops. Moffitt needs the funding to keep moving forward. We’re making a lot of progress but we just can’t stop,” Spade said.

Moffitt Day is on Wednesday.
