Parents are split when it comes to how safe they feel about sending their kids back to school in the fall with a little more than half saying they’re comfortable or extremely comfortable and the other half not as comfortable and want options or extremely uncomfortable.

Despite that fairly even split, the majority of parents say they’re most interested in face to face instructions for students, with CDC guidelines in place. According to the district, 43,220 people participated in the survey.

About 19 percent said they would prefer their child remain enrolled in their current school and access their teacher virtually.

Nearly 28 percent said they prefer a combination of face to face instruction and virtual. About 36 percent of school employees preferred that combination. About 34 percent said they would be comfortbale with face-to-face instruction.

The district also asked parents about preventative measures.

About 70 percent of survey participants supported any and all sanitizing measures.

Parents also supported things like more hand washing stations over increased social distancing measures.

When it comes to PPE, like face masks, a little more than half of parents felt it should be required when social distancing is not possible.

Pinellas County School Board members will be talking more about reopening plans at their meeting on July 14.
