UPDATE: The Hillsborough County Water Resource department has lifted the boil water notice for residents in Northwest Hillsborough County.  Bacteriological tests from samples of the water in the area show that the water meets quality standards.

A precautionary boil water notice has been issued for people in Northwest Hillsborough County.

In a news release, the county laid out the following boundaries: all areas west of Veterans Expressway to Ehrlich Road and west of Gunn Highway to Racetrack Road to the county line.

According to the county, a contractor damaged a 24-inch water main line while "performing modifications." In an earlier tweet, Hillsborough County said the contractor was working on the Citrus Park Roadway Project.

Residents in Northwest Hillsborough County were reporting low water pressure, and the Hillsborough County Health Department said it "requires a precautionary boil water notice after pressure in the lines drops below a certain level."

The department said water service has since been restored, and it is "unlikely there is any contamination in the system."

The notice will remain in place until testing shows the water is safe to drink.
