The Florida Department of Health in Pasco County is telling residents to take precautions against mosquito bites due to “an increase in mosquito-borne disease activity.”
Officials said Monday afternoon in a news release that several sentinel chickens have tested positive for Eastern equine encephalitis — and “the risk of transmission to humans has increased.”
Make sure to drain and cover the following items to limit your exposure by preventing mosquitos from multiplying:
- Garbage cans
- House gutters
- Buckets
- Pool covers
- Coolers
- Toys
- Flower pots
- Old tires
- Drums
- Bottles
- Cans
- Pots and pans
- Empty/clean bird baths once or twice a week
- Prevent boats from accumulating water
- Keep swimming pools chlorinated
