ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — One Boca Ciega High School grad is set to go to Princeton University on a full scholarship, and the community is helping him get there.

What You Need To Know

Bryce Springfield, 18, graduated valedictorian, but throughout high school, he and his mom struggled to find permanent housing.

Living in several homeless shelters, he knew he had to focus on school.

“I just want to push myself to be the best person that I can,” Springfield said. “I want to have a better life for me and my mom.”

Now with a full-ride to Princeton, he still needs supplies like winter coats and boots.

The restaurant Fo-Cheezy Twisted Meltz on St. Pete Beach is holding a fundraiser, where the winner receive a PS5 or an X-BOX, and all proceeds go to Springfield.

“His story touches by heart,” says Chef Robert Hesse, the restaurant's owner. “Tis is what No Kid 86’ed is about.”

The restaurant recently started the non-profit “No Kid 86’ed” to help underprivileged families.

Springfield says he wants to study political science, in an effort to change social services that could help other families in his shoes.

“It’s overwhelming, I didn’t expect these people to want to help me out, you know,” says Springfield.  “I’m just so thankful.”
