TAMPA, Fla. —  Travel this Memorial Day weekend is expected to rival record highs as Florida is slated to be filled with visitors just as it was pre-pandemic.

AAA is forecasting 2.2 million Floridians will travel over Memorial Day weekend. 1.96 million people are expected to drive to their destination while another 181,000 are set to fly.

The U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is also warning passengers that Tampa International Airport will be busy. They hired more staff than they were originally anticipating to prepare for the summer travel season and say they’re ready for the influx of passengers. Airport officials say on peak travel days this summer they are expecting anywhere from 70,000 to 75,000 passengers each day.

AAA predicts that the nation’s top travel destination this summer will be Orlando, followed by Seattle and Miami.
