ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday announced they have declined the 2023 club option on center fielder Kevin Kiermaier, making him a free agent.

The 32-year-old played in just 63 games last year, hitting .228 with seven home runs and 22 RBIs.

He has spent his entire career with the Rays but injuries kept him from playing 100 games in three of the last four full seasons, which doesn't count the 2020 season shortened by COVID.

For his career, Kiermaier has 756 hits, 82 home runs, and 316 RBI. He won three Gold Gloves for his defensive play in the outfield.

The 2023 option would have paid him $13 million, but Kiermaier is now free to sign with another team.
