ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Starting up the engine of a 25 C-Hawk “Native 1” is how Captain Kyle Wallace starts most mornings, as he takes off from a boat dock in the heart of downtown St. Petersburg.

What You Need To Know

Wallace’s charter company, Native Sportsfishing, takes people out on the waters off the Gulf Coast in search of tarpon, snook, redfish, kingfish and even various types of sharks.

You can find these types of fish and more in the shallow waters and grass flats off the St. Pete shoreline.

“Never a dull moment out here,” Wallace said. “There is always something new to experience and something new to catch.”

Wallace grew up on these waters, fishing with his grandfather, father and brother. He has competed in several tournaments and also won some.

“Right when I was 18, I went and got my captain’s license, at which point I started my own charter — and I’ve been doing it ever since,” he said.

His company is now in its ninth year, taking guests out for a day in paradise and combing blue waters for fish with a seasoned captain who will teach you about the sport of native fishing.
