LAND O’ LAKES, Fla. — Teachers and staff at Pasco County schools will get a raise next year.

According to Spectrum Bay News 9’s partner newspaper the Tampa Bay Times, the district agreed to give raises to all non-administrative employees.

Teachers’ raises will depend on years of teaching credit and will start at $2,000 a year, but could be as much as $7,245.

Support staff will get raises between 80 cents and $3.50 an hour.

Meanwhile, the two teacher’s unions in Pinellas County are asking county leaders for more money. They want raises for their members.

The two unions represent about 10,000 employees in the district.

This week, the school board did unanimously approve a pay raise for county bus drivers.

But the union leaders said it’s not enough.

“They are (at) $15.00 an hour and they can not afford to have housing, pay for the health insurance and put food on the table or pay the bills,” said Pinellas Education Support Professionals Association (PESPA) President Nelly Henies. “So the same gratitude that they give it the bus driver give it that pay increase, we’re expecting the same way for all educators here in Pinellas County.”

The unions plan to go back to the bargaining table with the school district as early as next month.
