President Donald Trump won Florida’s 29 electoral votes, defeating Democrat Joe Biden in the prized battleground state.

Trump had garnered 51.3% of the votes in the Sunshine State, with Biden at 47.8%.

The two were separated by less than 400,000 votes.

Meanwhle, there will be a few new faces on the school board in Hillsborough County after Tuesday's elections.

Two of three incumbents lost their bids for re-election in what appears to be a rebuke of how the board has handled recent issues like coronavirus and financial issues.

In District 1, incumbent Steve Cona lost to Nadia Combs 63 percent to 36 percent, a big victory for Combs.

In District 5, incumbent Tammy Shamburger lost to Henry "Shake" Washington 55 percent to 44 percent.

In District 7, incumbent Lynn Gray defeated Sally Harris 53 percent to 46 percent. Gray was endorsed by the Hillsborough Classroom Teachers Association.

Meanwhile, in District 3, the only school board race without an incumbent, Jessica Vaughn beat Mitch Thrower 61 percent to 38 percent.

Meanwhile in Pinellas County, incumbents held on to their seats in several races but there will be one new face on the Pinellas County Commission as former school board and St Pete City Council member Rene Flowers won a seat on the commission.

Also, Republican Scott Franklin won one of the state’s most watched races as Florida voters hit the polls Tuesday – and over the last several days – to cast their votes in the historic 2020 election.

Franklin, a Naval Academy graduate, handily defeated Democratic opponent Alan Cohn.

In other Congressional races, Democrat Charlie Crist won reelection, defeating Anna Paulina Cruz in District 13, and Republican Gus Bilirakis won District 12 over Kimberly Walker.

Democrat Kathy Castor won District 14, and Republican Vern Buchanan claimed victory in District 14.

Voters also approved Amendment 2, which would raise the minimum wage in Florida to $15. Opponents of this bill argued that it will cause restaurants and other businesses to lay off workers but it passed with more than 60% of voters saying yes.

In Bay Area law enforcement races, Chad Chronister won another term as Hillsborough County’s Sheriff, and Bob Gualtieri did the same in Pinellas County. Neither result was unexpected, though data showed both lost at least some support this year in the wake of Black Lives Matter protests.

It was a big night for incumbents and veteran politicians in Pinellas County. County Commission incumbents Charlie Justice and Janet Long both had easy victories.  In the District 7 Commission Race, former School Board and St. Pete City Council member René Flowers more than doubled St. Pete NAACP president Maria Scruggs votes to fill the seat left by Commissioner Ken Welch who will be running for Mayor of St. Pete.

In Pasco County, unofficial results appeared to show Republican incumbent Kurt Browning as winner of the race for Pasco County Schools superintendent over Democrat Cynthia Thompson, a Bayonet Point Middle School teacher. Browning said literacy will be a focus of his third term.

And in Polk County, voters overwhelmingly approved Amendment 1. It's an extension of property tax relief for new business coming into the county.
