PINELLAS COUNTY -- On the pitch, a good soccer team works together like one big family.

At Keswick Christian, the Crusaders take that one step further.

Josh, Jon and Luke Nordaas are at the core of one of the best starts in school history.

“Being able to play with them and know their skill sets, actually helps,” said senior captain Josh Nordaas.

The three brothers have been playing soccer since they were six years old. Jon is a sophomore midfielder and Luke is a freshman. All three are playing for their father and head coach, Ben Nordaas.

It’s the first time the four of them have worked together at the high school level, but coaching three of your own boys does come with its challenges.

“You don’t want the dynamic of politics to creep in, you want to encourage your son, but also let them know you have got to earn it.”

Led by Josh, who is one of the leading goal scorers in the country, the Crusaders are off to one of the best starts in the school’s history and in search of the school’s first state championship.

Coach Nordaas was introduced to the game in Brazil. His dad, a Missionary in the Amazon, raised him on soccer for 19 years, playing on the dirt fields with a ball wrapped up to look like a soccer ball.

He would eventually go to college in the states to play soccer at Cedarville University. The Nordaas boys started playing as young as six years old and grew to love the sport. Josh, the oldest, hopes to continue playing in college where he wants to study to become an ER doctor.

Now, the only focus for this soccer family is steering Keswick Christian into the playoffs and making this a season the whole family will never forget.
