POLK COUNTY, Fla. — A pedestrian walked into the path of an SUV on Interstate 4 early Sunday morning and was killed, stated the Florida Highway Patrol.

At around 6:14 a.m., James A. Cox was driving his 2014 Nissan Rogue westbound on the I-4, near mile marker 30, on the inside lane when a male who was walking along the interstate "stepped into the path of the (vehicle) and was hit, according to the FHP in a statement.

The male, who has not been identified, died at the scene near mile marker 30, near the State Road 539 (Kathleen Road) exit, in Polk County, confirmed the FHP.

Cox, 22 of Orlando, was taken to Lakeland Regional for minor injuries, even though he wore a seatbelt, stated the FHP.

No charges have been filed.
