BRADENTON, Fla. — A good Samaritan who was trying to see if a driver involved in a separate crash was ok was struck by another vehicle early Saturday evening in Manatee County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

  • Good Samaritan was a pedestrian who suffered serious injuries
  • Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, FHP says
  • Investigation is ongoing

At around 5:19 p.m., pedestrian Nilsa Crespo Torres checked to see if driver Yesenia Crespo of Parrish was OK after the 2011 Honda Accord she was driving was involved in a separate crash with a GMC Sonoma at U.S. 301 and 30th Avenue East in Bradenton, according to the FHP.

The Accord that Crespo, 28, was driving became disabled due to the crash and was resting in the middle of the right lane of U.S. 301 northbound.

As Torres, 32 of Palmetto, was talking to Crespo, a 2004 Dodge Ram that was driven by Berk Alagoz was traveling northbound of U.S. 301 when it struck the Accord on the right side and the Accord pushed into Torres, stated the FHP in a news release.

Torres was thrown into the grass at the corner of the intersection.

She was taken to Blake Medical Center for serious injuries, the FHP confirmed.

Crespo was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital for minor injuries.

Alagoz, a 27-year-old Palmetto resident, was not injured, but a male passenger of his was also taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital for minor injuries.

The people in the vehicles all wore seat belts and alcohol was not a factor in the crash, stated FHP.

The investigation is ongoing and no one has been charged yet.
