HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — Three teens are dead after a head-on crash with a semi-tractor trailer on U.S. 92 early Saturday morning in Hillsborough County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Camilo E. Mustacchio, a 17 year old from Dover, and his 15-year-old passenger Lexi R. Lapointe from Seffner (FHP original stated that she was 17 years old and from Plant City) were killed in the crash.

A second passenger, Edgar A. Ortiz, 14, (FHP originally stated that he was 19 year old) from Plant City, was transported to the hospital in critical condition but died on Sunday from his injuries. 

At around 12:38 a.m., the teen was driving a 2008 Ford Escape going westbound on U.S. 92, west of Turkey Creek Road, when for some unknown reason he crossed the centerline of the road and struck head-on with a 2005 semi-tractor trailer, driven by Petar Lakic, 61, according to FHP. 

The driver and the female passenger died at the scene and the 14-year-old passenger had to be airlift to Tampa General Hospital.

Lakic, of St. Petersburg, was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical in serious condition.

FHP stated that all involved in the crash were not under the influence of alcohol, however the teens were not wearing their seatbelts, but Lakic was.

Currently, there are no charges pending.
