ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The center of Tropical Storm Fay is northwest of NYC. It will soon be a depression. Low pressure and a cold front are approaching and will add to the rainfall, as the whole system moves north.

Tropical Storm Fay is weakening as it drifts into New Jersey. The storm is essentially unraveling and therefore tracking the center is not of great importance. Of more importance is the fact that heavy rain will spread inland and could produce some localized flooding, especially in the foothills and mountains of the Northeastern U.S. The winds have occasionally gusted to 35 to 40 mph, but as expected this isn’t a big wind threat.
Fay will continue moving north through Saturday, going up through New York and the remnants will move into Canada as it falls apart.
