WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Winston-Salem police are looking to add more women to the department.

  • Looking to hire more women in law enforcement, forensics and medical examination
  • Attendees toured police mobile command and vehicles
  • Information fair held at BB&T Field

In fact, they're trying to recruit more for positions throughout the entire criminal justice field. The department held an information fair Saturday at BB&T Field for women interested in a broad spectrum including law enforcement, forensics and medical examination.

"Traditionally, it's a male-dominated profession within any job in the criminal justice field. So, we really want to stimulate that interest from women who watch shows such as 'The First 48' and 'The Forensic Files' and kind of capitalize on that interest and then steer them into this line of work," Lt. Katie Patterson said.

In addition to hearing from women already working in the field, participants got to tour the police mobile command and tactical response vehicles.
