The zoo is completing plans for an Asian exhibit.

Tigers, red pandas, and even Komodo dragons are just some of the animals that will be arriving in Asheboro.

Tammy O'Kelley, the executive director of the Heart of North Carolina Visitor's Bureau, said any upgrades to the zoo are good for the economy.

"Anything new is good, and if you look at the most visited attractions in the country, the ones that are successful are the ones that are constantly evolving, changing and growing." said O'Kelley.

The zoo expects to break ground on the project next year, with the exhibit opening in spring of 2023.
