WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Some people are pushing for change to the Dixie Classic Fair in Winston-Salem.

• He says he believes a name change could create a positive environment for the generations to come

They want to drop 'Dixie' from the fair's name.

A pastor leading the effort says the word Dixie represents a time that was meant to separate our country.

Dixie has traditionally been a nickname for southern states, especially those that made up the Confederacy.

"I haven't been to the fair since 1988 because, for me, it does not represent something that is fun, something that is entertaining," says Sir Walter Mack Jr.

He says he believes a name change could create a positive environment for the generations to come.
