WINSTON-SALEM, NC--- In a world where toys and the latest gadgets are the obvious request from 9-year olds for their birthdays, one Clemmons girl is asking for something a little different.

  • Audrey Denise Greene asked her mother if she could have her birthday party at the SECU Family House in Winston-Salem
  • It is a hospitality house designed for adult patients and caregivers traveling to Forsyth County for health care
  • It's a place close to Audrey's heart, because she had stayed in a similar house when her grandmother was in the hospital

Audrey Denise Greene asked her mother if she could have her birthday party at the SECU Family House in Winston-Salem. It is a hospitality house designed for adult patients and caregivers traveling to Forsyth County for health care.

"I knew one year, I wanted to have a party where I would just give, instead of doing something just about me," Audrey said.

It's a place close to Audrey's heart, because she had stayed in a similar house when her grandmother was in the hospital. For her birthday, she invited friends and family to help her cook tacos and write welcome letters for the people staying there. Her mother, Denisha Little Greene, told us she is proud of her daughter.

"Audrey is not only self-motivating and self-starting in volunteerism but she also involves her friends," Greene said.

Amber Fiorni has been staying at the SECU Family House for over two months while her husband has been in the hospital, battling cancer. She said it's extraordinary to have someone care for them in the hardest point in their life.

"It's incredible to see somebody young that wants to do something for other people," Fironi said.

"When i get older I want to give," Audrey explained. Besides on her birthday, Audrey frequently comes to SECU Family house with her church, Elevation Church to volunteer.
