RALEIGH, N.C. -- WakeMed is testing drones for medical deliveries at their main campus this week.

The test runs are to see how efficiently drones can transport medical supplies to different facilities at WakeMed.

The company Matternet says they've been testing drone flights for medical supplies in Switzerland and are excited to bring their drone stations to the United States.

"If you wanted to transport something today on demand where it has to be right now, it can take anywhere between 30 minutes and two hours. With a system like this you're going to have a 9- minute delivery every time and you know exactly how long that's going to take," said CEO of Matternet Andreas Raptopoulos.

The drone testing will only be between two buildings on WakeMed's campus for now, but the company's staff says it may not be long until we could start seeing drones transporting equipment to facilities up to 11 miles away.
