DURHAM, N.C. — It was a trip back in time Saturday night for dozens of fans and players attending a vintage baseball game in Durham.

What You Need To Know

  • A vintage baseball game fundraiser was held at Historic Durham Athletic Park
  • Players had to play by rules dating back to the 1860s
  • Money raised from admissions will go toward helping the Duke Homestead Historical Site

The game was played at the Historic Durham Athletic Park to raise money for a historic Durham location, the Duke Homestead Historical Site.

Besides the vintage costumes, players also had to play by vintage rules dating back to the 1860s.

Dale Coats, president of the Duke Homestead History Corporation, was one of the managers for Saturday’s fundraiser.

Money raised from the $5 ticket prices will go towards supporting programs and assist with operations at the historical site.

“Yeah, we're doing it as a fundraiser for the historical site. Baseball was first played in North Carolina right at the Civil War, during a time when Duke Homestead was actually a working farm," Coats said.

The Duke Homestead Historical Site has two more fundraisers coming up to end the year.
