MYRTLE BEACH -- UNC's Sylvia Hatchell is celebrating 1,000 wins.

The UNC Chapel Hill women's head basketball coached watched as her girls dominated against Grambling State University Tuesday Night in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

She reached her 900th win back in 2013, taking her four more years to clinch a thousand.

"We’re not finished. There’s so many more things I want to do. Like I said, winning more championships, getting this team back to what we’re used to, the top ten in the country," says Hatchell.

And for some of her fans, this win is much deserved.

"Not too many people have done it. And because of the way that she has done it. Because of her passion for the game, her love for the game and the love that she has for her players," says South Carolina resident Katrena Johnson.

Hatchell returned to her position as head coach after battling a stint of Leukemia back in 2013 and was inducted into the prestigious Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Coach Hatchell says now that the NCAA academic scandal is in her review mirror she can get her team back to the top ten in the country.
