Walker’s campaign has been rocked by allegations that he once reimbursed a woman for an abortion, even though he’s now campaigning against abortion rights.

With the midterm election now four weeks away, both parties are making their final push to secure control of the Senate. Republicans are just one seat away from regaining the majority.

“The reason this race is so important is the Republicans originally thought they only needed to take one seat away from the Democrats this time around, but something happened on the way to November and that is, it looks like they’re gonna lose Pennsylvania. So now they need two seats,” said George Washington University Professor Todd Belt.

Republicans see the Georgia race as perhaps their best chance to pick one up. The visit by Scott and Cotton was the first by marquee Republicans to help Walker since the allegations he paid for a woman’s abortion emerged. Scott, who heads the National Republican Senatorial Committee, stood by Walker hitting the Democrats’ record on issues like crime and the economy.

“There’s way too many reasons that each one of you should vote for Herschel Walker and everyone in Georgia should, every single voter should,” Scott said.

“The high level Republicans are continuing to campaign for him because they know the voters just don’t really care that much about it. After all, they elected Donald Trump after the Access Hollywood tape. They knew what they were getting. They want the votes,” said Belt.

Walker and the Republicans are trying to unseat Democratic Senator Rafael Warnock, who has not directly commented on the allegations against Walker. Hours before Walker’s rally, Warnock tweeting: “This election is about who’s ready to represent the people of Georgia, and the more we learn, the clearer the choice becomes.”

On Friday, Warnock and Walker will square off in a debate in Savannah.
