WORCESTER, Mass.- The Worcester Common welcomed dozens of families and community members for an event geared towards the city’s youth this weekend.

Recreation Worcester hosted the Whole Kids event on Saturday where families could sign kids up for summer programs.

Over 50 vendors set up tents with fun activities and educated families about resources available in the city. Anyone who signed up for Recreation Worcester’s program could get creative and tie-die their own Worcester shirt.

Spectrum News 1 spoke with organizers about getting out and being active.

“The theme of the day is athletics, and we chose that theme because we really want to focus on people getting involved this summer and being engaged and being active,” Liza French, community engagement specialist for Worcester DYO, said. “We think it’s so important to get out and be engaged, especially for youth in our community, but also for all members of families and community.”

Recreation Worcester is a free, year-round program for youth. Anyone interested can find more information about the program on the city’s website.
