National Grid has a new program aimed at supporting nonprofits across Massachusetts.

The "Grid for Good" program is a volunteer effort the company says will make positive change in the community.

This week marked the first of a series of company-sponsored volunteer events where more than 150 National Grid employees spent 750 hours assisting nonprofits.

On Thursday, volunteers were at Veterans Inc. in Worcester, sorting clothes for female veterans.

“Veterans Inc. is part of the Worcester community. Worcester is our largest electric territory in the U.S. and veterans are so important to our communities and the company” said Danielle Wheelock, interim VP of corporate affairs for National Grid.

The "Grid for Good" program is part of National Grid's commitment to 500,000 volunteer hours by 2030.
