SYRACUSE, N.Y. –The City of Syracuse could soon be home to a new dog park!

Local leaders joined members of the Syracuse Parks Conservancy Friday to announce the project.

It would be built in Ormand Spencer Park right on East Water Street.

The spot is also along the Empire State Trail which is how Syracuse resident Joshua Wilcox got the idea for the project. He's been riding the trail often during the pandemic and noticed the location.

"I really thought this was an idea that would bring people together, make them look at the lighter side of life right now,” said Wilcox. “Having the dog park and the idea during a pandemic is really going to make a difference I feel, in this part of the city especially."

There's a GoFundMe set up with a goal of raising $27,000. You can also give feedback on the project through a public information session being held online by the parks department at 6 p.m. next Thursday.
