RALEIGH -- More than 36 million people worldwide were living with HIV last year according to the nonprofit "UNAIDS.”

Of those, they say more than one million of those infected died from AIDS-related diseases.

While much progress has been to prevent and treat HIV, there's still much work to be done.

Our Carolina Blair talks about some efforts here in North Carolina with Dr. Allison Mathews and UNC Public Health Educator Marcus Hawley.

HIV Cure Research Day will be held on Dec. 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. on Eastway Elementary School.
