The Honeoye Falls-Lima School District confirmed Tuesday there was a computer breach with the district.

The district says individuals unlawfully accessed an administrative user account belonging to School Superintendent Gene Mancuso.

Mancuso said the individuals who accessed his account are students at HFL High School — he would not say how many students.

Students who spoke to Spectrum News say 18 kids or more are involved in the hacking.

The district will not confirm why the students breached the computer system.

Is it to change their grades? Not according to seniors Cam McDaniel and Josh Edelbach. They say that's only a rumor, and they’ve heard that it's for students to play online games at school.

The district says all of those students involved, as well as their parents, have been notified, and the appropriate level of school discipline administered. The district also says that no student records were changed and a system is now in place to prevent this from happening again.

"We think it's unfortunate,” said Mancuso. “We're able to teach a lesson, but at the same time, computers are part of our world and guard the student and staff information, and privacy is important to us and remains a priority."
