BRONX, N.Y. - Federal housing administrator Lynne Patton is not mincing words about her experiences living in public housing.

On day three at the Patterson Houses in the Bronx, things seemed to dissolve.

A community meeting hosted by the NYPD got testy Wednesday night when New York City Housing Authority residents said Patton was not getting the real story, seeing real conditions at the complex. So she described what she had seen like this:

"Go on my page today, we went to a ton of sh**hole apartments as my boss would say," Patton said.

It’s how President Donald Trump described certain countries last year in a now infamous comment.

Patton was referring to a tour she gave members of the media of three apartments and the community center Wednesday morning.

One resident has had a hole in her bathroom for months.

"It's overwhelming. It never gets easier. I've been coming to apartments like these for two years and it doesn't get better. Seeing conditions like this doesn't get any easier. We need this federal monitor and we need it now," Patton said.

At least since her arrival on Monday, Patton says NYCHA staff have cleaned up the place.

She posted on Facebook that morning maintenance workers came to the apartment she is staying in to address a nearly seven-month old work order.

But the to-do list at the complex is massive.

Still, Patton says HUD is not forking over any more money to the public housing authority. The authority estimates it needs $32 billion over the next five years to be in a state of good repair.

"That's a number that breaks down to $181,000 per unit in needed repairs per unit and that's a number i disagree with. If you took $181,000 to this unit, I mean it would look like Trump Tower," Patton said.

Patton is planning to stay at Patterson houses through Friday morning and the spectacle may follow her the whole way.
