NEW YORK - All of the remaining patients aboard the U.S. Navy Ship Comfort have now been released.

The 1,000 bed Navy hospital ship has been docked in New York Harbor since March 30.

It was originally meant to take on non-coronavirus patients as a way to ease overcrowding at hospitals in the city.

But with the number of hospitalizations on the decline over the past few weeks, the ship only ended up treating 182 patients.

A U.S. Defense official says the Comfort is still expected to depart the city for Virginia at the end of the week.

It will be cleaned and disinfected before setting for its next mission.
