AUSTIN, Texas – A Dobie Middle School teacher has been arrested following allegations he was having an improper relationship with a student.

The 30-year-old teacher, Pedro Esteban Rosas-Martinez, is facing two felony charges for the improper relationship and for the continued sexual abuse of a young child.

The Austin ISD school’s principal sent a letter to the staff and students’ families informing them of the incident.

On Oct. 31 the teacher was placed on administrative leave with pay on the same day the school was notified about the situation. The school’s principal, Jesse De La Huerta, said the teacher has been recommended for termination.

Rosas-Martinez was arrested on Nov. 27 at 4 p.m. and is being held at the Travis County Jail on a $300,000 bond.

Due to the ongoing investigation, school officials will not release any more details at this time.

Counselors will be available on campus for students who need support.

A meeting will be held for families on Monday at 5:30 p.m.

Earlier this month, an AISD teaching aid at LBJ High School was arrested for an improper student relationship.
