AUSTIN, Texas -- Researchers from an Austin nonprofit are heading to Peru for three months to study the Colibri Cloud Forest in the Amazon rainforest.

Rainforest Partnership has been working with people in this region for almost a decade, helping communities with ecotourism and stopping deforestation.

Researchers leave Friday for Peru, where they will set up 30 cameras outfitted with motion sensors to capture mammals in a non-invasive way.

The video will help them understand the biodiversity of the region and assist the local government with their new conservation area.

"These results are going to help create that protected area and know what's in their backyard and empower them and give them the tools to go to everybody and say, 'Here's what this forest has,'" said CEO Niyanta Spelman.

You can visit http://www.rainforestpartnership.org, if you would like to sponsor a camera station. You will receive exclusive pictures and video from the cloud forest weekly.
