Authorities stopped a Chevy truck on Interstate 10 shortly before 10 p.m. for a traffic violation. After speaking to the driver, Sgt. Randy Thumann believed the driver may have been involved in narcotics trafficking. Initially, the driver refused consent to search the vehicle.

Thumann deployed his canine partner Kolt to conduct an exterior sweep of the vehicle. Thumann observed Kolt alert to the front passenger side hood area of the vehicle which indicated the presence of illegal narcotics. After searching, Thumann discovered the battery was being utilized to conceal methamphetamines.

Approximately 6.5 kilograms of meth with a approximate street value of $700,000 were found. The driver was arrested and taken to the Dan R. Beck Justice center where he was charged with felony drug possession.
