AUSTIN – Two streets in downtown Austin were shut down shortly after 11 a.m. Monday after a contractor ruptured a natural gas line.

  • Gas line was in alley
  • Colorado St. and Lavaca St. closed
  • Line has been shut off

The gas line is located in an alley between 7th Street and 8th Street.

At 8:13 p.m., Austin Fire Info tweeted that Texas Gas Service shut off the damaged gas line. Crews had a difficult time accessing gas line due to other buried utilities including two 34KV power lines.

Colorado Street will remain closed for road repairs but Lavaca Street is opening back up.
