AUSTIN, Texas — At least 1,000 people are expected to convene Wednesday at Austin City Hall for the Human Trafficking Awareness Rally.

  • Happening at Austin City Hall Pavilion
  • Adult survivors will attend
  • More girls of color trafficked

The Links, a volunteer organization, is putting on the event.

The goal is to raise awareness about child sex trafficking issues — especially how the crime disproportionately affects girls of color.

At the rally, people will hear from state and city leaders and adult survivors of child sex trafficking.

Representatives from The Refuge for DMST will also be attending. The group provides support for girls who are survivors of sex trafficking. Steven Phenix, a spokesperson for the group, says it is important to keep the conversation going.

“Awareness saves lives,” said Phenix. “I’ve known people that have walked away from human trafficking awareness events and recognized a sign a child was being trafficked right in front of them.”

The event will take place at the Austin City Hall Pavilion from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
