Gray skies have already begun to unleash some light sprinkles out there this morning -- grab an umbrella and get ready for slick streets at times between now and the early hours of the weekend ahead. Today's forecast calls for overcast skies and patchy fog, afternoon highs in the cool low 60s, and an overall 60% rain chance.

We see a polar cold front moving south through the TX Panhandle and it's heading our direction. As the front arrives tonight through tomorrow morning, we'll ramp the odds for showers & storms up to a rare 100% chance.
Temps will hold steady or gradually fall through the 50s during the day tomorrow, and it could feel like 40s thanks to breezy north winds.
As for wet weather, our latest computer models show two distinct rounds of heavy rain and possible storms. One could blossom over Central TX tomorrow during the morning to midday hours. The second, and heavier, round is expected tomorrow night around 9 p.m. through midnight as a large pacific disturbance swirls overhead.
We expect heavy, potentially blinding rainfall and there might be some lightning and hail with the strongest storm cells Friday night. Due to the potentially intense nature of some of this rain, a FLASH FLOOD WATCH will be in effect from noon Friday through noon Saturday. The most critical time frame for disruptive travel will probably take place from sunset Friday through around 2 a.m. Saturday.
Very chilly air will pump into the region for the weekend, leaving us dry, cold and breezy for much of Saturday with 40s and low 50s. Winds will calm down by Sunday, with temps getting even colder. In the Austin metro areas, we expect morning 30s to give way to 40s for much of the afternoon. A light freeze is possible especially in the Hill Country on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday mornings.
