BUFFALO, N.Y. — The 35-day strike at Mercy Hospital of Buffalo has ended.

According to CWA 1133, the union voted with a 94% majority to approve the tentative contract agreement on Monday. Staff is set to return to work Wednesday.

CWA District 1 area director Debbie Hayes said they ratified a total of six contracts that apply to all Catholic Health system hospitals, with changes including a base pay of $15 an hour, safe staffing ratios of one nurse to four patients, and intact retirement and health benefits.

“Now that that’s done and the contract has been ratified, it’s time to get back inside and continue the work we started on the streets,” said Hayes.

Catholic Health officials said they plan to hire up to 400 new staff members to help with staff ratios.

Mercy Hospital of Buffalo services like ambulance transport, labor and delivery, cardiac and stroke, and others will resume Wednesday.
